We are thrilled to present, a real animal biting itself, a solo exhibition of works by Douglas Degges. These works were composed over the past three years and are part of Degges’ ongoing project, a squirrel from memory, explore shared digital experiences, the pressure to possess a singular voice or vision within a creative practice and the concept of home as something immaterial and held within the body.
Artist Bio:
Douglas Degges (b. Shreveport, LA) is an artist and educator currently based in Utica, NY and Mansfield Center, CT where he is an Associate Professor of Art in Painting and Drawing at the University of Connecticut. Douglas received his MFA from the University of Iowa and a BA in Studio Art from Rhodes College in Memphis, TN. His work has been exhibited in various group and solo exhibitions throughout the United States and in Mexico. Most recently his work was exhibited at Proyecto T in Mexico City, Mexico, Side Room Gallery in Brooklyn, NY, the Pratt Munson Gallery in Utica, NY, Cleaner Gallery + Projects in Chicago, IL, Whitespec in Atlanta, GA, Stove Works in Chattanooga, TN, and the Meadows Museum of Art at Centenary College in Shreveport, LA. His work has been supported by several artist residencies including the Josef & Anni Albers Foundation, Stove Works, the Vermont Studio Center, Casa Lü, RONDO Residency, and Millay Arts.

About us: Space & Time is an artist-run gallery located within a 100+ year old storefront in the beautiful Irving Park neighborhood of Chicago, Illinois. It was co-founded in 2020 by Nicole Mauser and Matt Brown out of a mutual desire to connect practices. The gallery is ADA accessible on the street level.
Bus: Take the #80 CTA bus route to Spaulding Ave stop.
Train: Take CTA Blue Line or Brown Line to the Irving Park stop and walk to gallery or transfer to the #80 bus to Spalding stop.
Parking: Pay parking meters are located directly out front (Sundays are free). Diagonal parking spots on adjacent Spaulding or Christiana streets also offer free 24 hour parking.
